Mark L. Bibbs grew up in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Bibbs is a proud double Tar Heel. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992, where he also earned his law degree in 1995.
Prior to attending law school, Bibbs worked as Special Assistant to Daniel T. Blue, Jr., the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives in the North Carolina General Assembly.
Before, during and after graduation from law school, Bibbs served as a member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. He completed his service on the UNC Board of Governors in 1997.
During the summer after his second year of law school, Bibbs worked for the law firm of Smith, Anderson, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan in Raleigh, North Carolina.
After graduating from law school, Bibbs joined his mentor, Speaker Dan Blue, at his law firm of Thigpen, Blue, Stephens & Fellers as an attorney in 1996. He primarily focused in the areas of civil litigation.
In 1998, after 2 years with Thigpen, Blue, Stephens & Fellers, Bibbs accepted an invitation to join North Carolina State Representative Milton F. “Toby” Fitch in the practice of law at his office in Wilson, North Carolina continuing in the practice area of civil litigation.
After Fitch was appointed as a Superior Court Judge, in 2002 Bibbs helped to form the firm of Davis, Bibbs, Flanagan & Smith, PLLC with offices in Raleigh and Wilson, North Carolina, where he continued his focus on civil litigation. There he often taught continuing legal education courses to other lawyers focusing on civil trial skills.
In 2004, Bibbs formed his own practice still focusing on civil litigation, where he remains today, 14 years later and 23 years out of UNC Law School. Bibbs has successfully tried to verdict, over 100 jury trials in North Carolina state court.
Bibbs is a member of the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the Capital City Lawyers Association and the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers.
Bibbs is the proud father of 2 daughters, Caroline Madison and Lily Francis Bibbs. He is also a member of First Baptist Church – Wilmington Street in Raleigh.
